London: Printed for the Author, and for Joseph Ames, and Peter Thompson; and sold by J. Osborn, at the Golden Ball in Pater-noster Row, 1736. viii, 204, [2 blanks], 124 pages. Mezzotint portrait of the author, as frontispiece, 25 engraved plates, 4 engraved vignettes, and other wood-engraved text illustrations. Bound in sponged full calf, gilt, sometime re-backed preserving the original spine. Second and best edition of this pioneering history of the Isle of Thanet (the first edition, published in 1723, had many fewer pages and only nine plates). Inner hinges strengthened when re-backed; original spine has some loss of leather; else an excellent, clean copy. The author, the Rev.John Lewis (1675-1747), was the Vicar of Minster in Thanet and an active local antiquary.
