I issued my first catalogue of children’s books in 1973, and became a full-time bookseller in 1980, exhibiting on the P.B.F.A circuit of provincial book fairs and regularly in London. Married to Sandra in 1981, who became a partner in the business, we opened The Canterbury Bookshop in 1988. After twenty-two years, and with mixed feelings, the shop was closed in 2010. We have exhibited regularly at the A.B.A. Fair in London for over twenty years, at the A.B.A.A. in California also, and, occasionally, in New York.
We have continued to specialise in early children’s books – 18th and 19th centuries being areas of strength – but have a small stock of miscellaneous antiquarian and general stock, also prints and some original illustration.
