This superb children’s book is little known outside of Switzerland. The text is in a Basel dialect. Paul Hosch (1886-1975) was an architect who studied at Olbrich’s Jugenstihl art colony in Hesse. Later, in Vienna he was associated with the Secession and Werkstatte movement. ‘In 1915, one of the most wonderful Swiss children’s books was published: beautiful lithographs by the architect Paul Hosch illustrated the [instructional] verses written is Basle dialect.’ Kaiser.
