Together with the two original illustrated manuscripts for the book, containing a total of 50 original watercolour illustrations. At the close of the first book the author has written, ‘I made this Book for my son Martin New Year’s Day 1941 Mary Fernald.’ At the close of the second, ‘I made this book for my son Martin for his fourth birthday on October 20th 1942. Mary Fernald.’ Both volumes are bound in decorative paper-covered boards with pictorial manuscript titles. The published book combines both manuscripts, but some of the illustrations have been dropped, and all have been adapted by an unnamed professional illustrator..
