An album containing twenty-one mounted engravings of beggars.
1592. Early 19th century calf. The engravings, on chained paper, are probably 18th century. Each approximately 15 x 10 cm. One engraving has lost a small corner; some light insignificant marking; spine expertly repaired; else very good. Jacques Callot [circa 1592–1635), was a baroque printmaker and draftsman from the Duchy of Lorraine He is an important figure in the development of the old master print. He made over 1,400 etchings that chronicled the life of his period, featuring soldiers, clowns, drunkards, Gypsies, beggars, as well as court life. He also etched many religious and military images, and many prints featured extensive landscapes in their background.
