Sometime re-backed, but retaining original endpapers with the ownership name of ‘Anne Garnham 1792.’ Slight damp marking to a small area of four pages in volume I resulting in the loss of four letters, though the sense is clear. Boards worn at corners; else a very good set. First published in 1788. See Blakey pages 144 and 151. A third edition was published by Lane in 1796. Elizabeth Bonhote was a novelist whose most successful work was a gothic romance entitled Bungay Castle. The Parental Monitor, was intended as a guide to her children in the event of her death, it advocated acceptance of one's lot and dependence on adults. One volume applying to girls and one to boys.
