THE INFANT’S ALPHABETICAL CABINET.

London: Printed and Sold by Marshall, 140 Fleet Street, No date [not before 1806]. Two volumes. 30, [2] pages per volume. Original decorative paper-covered boards with shaped paper title labels to each panel. 47 x 39 mm. One leaf in volume I has a small blank corner lost; boards a little rubbed, else very good. These two volumes once accompanied 28 hand-coloured engraved cards, all contained in a small wooden box with a pictorial sliding lid. The set was one of approximately a dozen such offerings by Marshall, including Cries of London; Shells; Trades, Fruits, etc. All are rare. Quite often the sets lack some of the cards and one or both miniature books. See Alderson, Miniature Libraries for the Young. However, this particular ‘Cabinet’ was unknown to him.
