THE INFANT’S LIBRARY. Book 11.

London: Printed and sold by John Marshall. 140, Fleet Street, From Aldermary Church Yd, 1819. 24 [26] pages. Illustrated with 8 full-page hand-coloured engravings. Original paper-covered buff-coloured boards with shaped title labels to both boards. 61 x 48 mm. Spine expertly restored; boards rather marked; else a very good, clean copy. The Infant’s Library, first published in 1800, consisted of a wooden box with a sliding front, designed to resemble a bookcase with glazed doors. The inside, lined with pink paper, was divided into four; each compartment containing four miniature books, making a total of sixteen. The ‘Library was still being issued as late as 1824, though these printings are, in our experience, far less common. See Brian Alderson, The Private Library Third Series Volume 6: I. Spring 1983.
