The Ayenbite of Inwyt was written by the French Dominican friar Laurent in 1279 for the use of Philip II of France, and entitled Le Somme des Vices at des Vertues. Its translation was completed in1340 by Dan Michel of Northgate, a Benedictine monk of St Augustine, Canterbury.

The pictorial engraved half-title has been mounted, and has a small area of restoration; pages 23/24 have suffered a small area of loss which has been restored, possible in the eighteenth or nineteenth centuries; the spine has been expertly repaired. A handsome edition of the Book of Hours of the Virgin Mary.
