Number 461 of a limited edition of 500 copies on “Old Stratford” paper. Original cloth-backed pictorial paper-covered boards. 200 x 150 mm. Boards a little rubbed and worn, with a small stain on the outer fore-edge; majority of paper label lost from spine; else very good. Inscribed in pencil on front free endpaper: ‘Wishing Lady Minto a happy Christmas Maud Cunard.’ As well as Lady Cunard’s signature, there is another, of S. M. Lee.

Presentation copy inscribed in the blank margin beneath the portrait frontispiece: 'Willie joins me in regards to all. Your every truly W Thom June 1845.' The Willie referred to is William Thom's son, who is shown in the frontispiece standing next to his father. William Thom had various careers, including weaving, flute-player, singer, and poet. This the second edition has ten new poems, along with a new preface, dedication, section of "recollections," and "the author's acknowledgement" at the end.
