A four panel, full colour, panorama of the English Channel, extending to four feet [1.2 metres], Dover Castle and the White Cliffs in the background. There are twelve die-cut shaped pieces – ships, an aeroplane, passengers – that can be moved from panel to panel to create a variety of scenes. Little worn at corners; repaired tear and another short tear to the flap on the final panel; text to the verso of the other two panels. Very good.

Illustrated with 23 coloured plates. “Transparency” contained in pocket on verso of upper cover. Original cloth-backed boards; pictorial front board by Lautrec. 29.8 x 23.5cms. Browning to front and rear endpapers; transparency slightly damaged; slight wear to edges of boards; else an unusually good copy of a scarce optical book. By careful manipulation of the “transparency” over the surface of the illustration, the effect of movement can be achieved.

Original pictorial boards, ribbon ties; the upper panel showing the front view of Rosine's trunk; the lower panel, the back view. At the rear of the book, behind an additional illustration of Rosine's trunk, are her legs and head mounted on rivets so that they can be swung out to form a complete doll. Book size: 20 x 20. Rosine, when full extended: 48 cm. There are three other titles listed in this 'doll' series: Nono, Lulu, and Lucette. The book was printed in France, and originally, was almost certainly first issued in French. Head expertly strengthened; some minor rubbing; else very good. Scarce.

Illustrated with nine of hand-coloured plates with flaps which when raised reveal virtuous versions of the articles found on a young lady's dressing table: the enchanting mirror (humility); a wash to smooth wrinkles (contentment); a universal beautifier (good humour); matchless ear rings (attention), best white paint (innocence), superior rouge (modesty), a mixture to sweeten the voice (mildness and truth), fine lip salve (cheerfulness), and the late King's eye water (benevolence). Original printed paper covered boards. 133 x 108 mm. Spine restored; boards lightly soiled and rubbed; corners worn; else a very good copy with all flaps present. The first edition was published in the same year.
