    1928. An undated manuscript letter on black edged mourning paper from Rhoda (Caroline) Liddell to a Mrs Harvey acknowledging the gift of flowers and her kinds words about her sister Violet Constance Liddell. Signed Rhoda Liddell. Rhoda and Violet were the younger sisters of Alice Pleasance Liddell. This letter, written on New Year’s Day, presumably dates from January first 1928, Violet dying on December 9th 1927. This item is subject to VAT at 20%.

    A letter, dated from King’s College, Southwark, May 13th 1800, from Edward Hasted to John Latham requesting he subscribe to Hasted’s fourth volume of his History of Kent, and requesting the address of Willaim Latham. A single sheet of 15 manuscript lines, laid upon another sheet used as an envelope and addressed to John Latham Rumsey, Hampshire. The letter still bears a faint postmark but has lost its wax seal. Quarto: 240 x 180 mm. John Latham, known as the ‘grandfather of Australian ornithology,’ was the author of ‘A General History of Birds,’ published between 1821 and 1828, in eleven volumes.

    A letter, dated from King’s College, Southwark, March 20th 1800, from Edward Hasted to John Latham requesting he subscribe to Hasted’s fourth volume of his History of Kent, and requesting the address of William Latham. A single sheet of 12 manuscript lines, Quarto: 240 x 180 mm. The left-hand side of the letter has been taped, and was once probably mounted in a book – possibly, Hasted’s History of Kent. John Latham, known as the ‘grandfather of Australian ornithology,’ was the author of ‘A General History of Birds,’ published between 1821 and 1828, in eleven volumes.

    1980. A two-page manuscript letter from the surrealist poet David Gascoyne, to the poet Paul Edwards, dated 1 April 1980. He tells Edwards that he wants to help him by contributing to his magazine, but has just sent off a ‘whole batch for the second issue of Poetry London. However, he is enclosing an extract from Andre Breton and Philippe Soupault, Les Champs Magnnetiques, which he is translating into English. The extract is a two page typed excerpt from the opening passage of The Silverless Mirror. It is signed in biro by Gascoyne and has some small manuscript corrections. The Magnetic Fields, translated by Gascoyne, was first published in the U.K. in 1985. The two items. This item is subject to VAT at 20%.
