Vera is, almost certainly, Vera Hockman, a violinist and mother of two, half Elgar's age, whom Elgar met in 1931 and fell in love with. He would only live another two years, but their relationship inspired him to compose again.

Francois Henri Turpin is a pseudonym for Henriques Pangrapho who also wrote ‘Histoire de la vie de Mahomet.’
