Hannas records an earlier form of this puzzle, issued in 1807, by the same publisher, but with a slightly different label to the box. This issue is unknown to her. She lists two examples of the earlier issue: an incomplete copy in the Victoria & Albert Museum and a copy in her own collection that lacks the book.
