NURSERY SONGS.
Edinbugh: G. Ross: G. Ross, No date [circa 1815]. Last page numbered 18, but only 16 of 20 pages, if, as is possibly the case, this copy lacks wrappers; though this is not certain, despite the page numbering, as we have seen this series issued both with and without wrappers, though clearly the earliest issues had wrappers. Woodcut on title, and fourteen cuts within the text. A very good copy of a rare nursery rhyme chapbook. WorldCat lists only an undated copy in the British Library, that, as with this copy, is without wrappers. Contains, Jack Sprat, Jack and Gill, Jack Horner and Silver Bells, as well as less well-known examples.

THE BUTTERFLY’S BALL and the Grasshopper’s Feast.
J. Harris, Title dated 1807; cover 1808. (Watermarked 1807.). 15 engraved, unnumerbered leaves, printed on one side only, followed by a blank leaf. Original printed wrappers with vignettes of a butterfly and grasshopper to upper cover. The upper cover announces that this is ‘A New and Improved Edition, with New Plates.’ But this is in fact the original edition with Mulready’s illustrations, not the newly illustrated edition of 1808. Presumably this is another example of publishers using old and new stock. Booklist on lower cover which includes an announcement for the publication ‘shortly’ of The Lobster’s Voyage to the Brazils.,’ which was first published in 1808. A very nice, clean copy of an early edition. Moon 725.
