Facsimile of a small notebook found in Cezanne's pocket on 6 October 1906, the day of his collapse, containing sketches some full-length figures, a drawing of a country church-yard, and various jottings, etc. Thought to be published by Jacomet in an edition of about 60 copies for private distribution. Bound in pink watered silk, and contained in pink paper-covered slipcase. 113 x 71 mm. A fine copy. Inscribed in pencil on front endpaper: ‘Cezanne notebook given to Hans & Tanya Schmoller by Marie Louise Rosenthal Chicago 18.x.80.’ A fine copy.

Inscribed on front free endpaper in John Russell’s hand: ‘To David Jones with affectionate admiration from John Russell October 14th 1965.’ Inscribed by Bryan Robertson: ‘Bryan Robertson who salutes a face which projects the great beauty of your work.’ The presentation is also signed by Snowdon. Loosely inserted opposite a portrait of David Jones on page 190 is a proof illustration of the same photographic image. The wrapper is very tatty; has some loss, and has been repaired with Sellotape, else a very good copy.
