Illustrated with a vignette on title, and fifty engravings, plus tailpieces. Volume II: [viii], 155 pages. Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece, vignette on title, and 16 full-page engraved plates. Both volumes bound in full calf gilt with red and green labels to the spines. Octavo. Both volumes bear the armorial bookplates of Edward Auriot Hay Drummond to the front pastedowns, and the signatures of Charlotte A. Hay Drummond to the verso of the front endpapers. Spines cracking; spine of volume II just chipped at head; else a handsome set, internally clean and fresh.

Uncut and unstitched, forming a double-sided panorama of four leaves; the outer four pages bearing hand-coloured engravings with text beneath, as issued; of the inner four, two pages bear uncoloured engravings with text beneath, and the remaining two advertisements for Mrs. Winslow's Soothing Syrup, a remedy for teething infants. Folded size: 14.2 x 11.6 cm.

Original marbled boards recently re-backed in plain sheep. 12mo. The top 7 mm of the title-page has been cut off, presumably where an ownership name was written; else a very good copy. Quite rare. The first edition was published 1782/83.

London: Printed and Sold by John Marshall, No. 4. Aldermary Church Yard, Bow Lane, No date. [circa 1801]. Volume II only. 30, [2] pages. Original decorative paper-covered boards with shaped paper title labels to each panel. 47 x 39 mm. Boards a little rubbed, miniature bookplate; else very good. This volume [together with volume I] once accompanied 28 hand-coloured engraved cards, all contained in a small wooden box with a pictorial sliding lid. The set was one of approximately a dozen such offerings by Marshall, including Cries of London; Shells; Trades, Fruits, etc. All are rare. Quite often the sets lack some of the cards and one or both miniature books. See Alderson, Miniature Libraries for the Young.
