A few leaves have some slight damage to the fore-edges where once loose; one leaf repaired; one leaf with juvenile scribble on blank verso; binding very worn to corners and edges, and both boards with old fold marks, now repaired. However, this third printing, the first with woodcut illustrations based on the earlier [1846] lithographs, and the first enlarged edition with 43 new rhymes and illustrations, is extremely rare; in our experience, much more so than the second edition of 1855. -

Inscribed on front paste-down: ‘To Miss Fanny Scott. A prize for walking. Midsummer 1862.’

Oldham: The Incline Press, 1993. 35 pages. This edition uses 32 Nursery Rhymes and engravings from The Zodiac Book of Nursery Rhymes published by Chatto and Windus in 1939. The drawings on the title page, after the contents, and on page 3 were made later, in 1945. Number 99 of an edition of 260 copies. Original blue cloth-backed boards over patterned paper-covered boards designed by Enid Marx. A fine copy.

Spine a little worn, with small loss of paper; else a very good copy of this rare book. This is a re-issue of Homan Turpin’s edition of circa 1780. Extremely rare. ESTC list one copy only of this edition, but with maps, at the Pierpont Morgan Library, and no copies of the issue without maps.
