MARKEDSSCENER I Broget Rad, em Billedbog for Born, med Text.

Bergen: G. C. C. Prahl, 1846. 12 pages of verse and 12 full-page superbly detailed lithographed plates by A. Giere; together with a multiple image title-label which, presumably was intended for the front cover when the book was bound up. First Norwegian Edition, based on a German work published in 1840 called, 'Der Jahrmarkt.' Spine splitting; contents loose; else a very good copy contained in a modern half morocco folding case. An extremely scarce work seemingly unknown to Toole Stott, as he fails to mention either the Norwegian or the German edition. WorldCat list one copy only at Princeton. The first Norwegian primer for children was not published until 1798, and the first children’s book considered a classic was Moe’s In the Well and in the Pond published in 1851. Markedsscener, published in 1846, is considered to be the first picture book for children published in Norway.
