Printed title, preface leaf, and 36 full-page hand-coloured lithographed pages, printed on rectos only, 24 of which bear three strip illustrations, the remaining 12, have two strip illustrations. Original cloth-backed hand-coloured pictorial boards. Oblong folio. Cover rubbed and worn at corners and edges; cloth spine renewed, endpapers replaced; one leaf with a tear in the blank margin; some light marking and text-block browning; else a very good copy of this important children's book first published in Edinburgh in 1858.
