Original transportation document. Printed court document, dated 16th January 1835, being a caption and order of the Court issued by Tewkesbury Borough, for William Heydon and William Leyes, found guilty of stealing, by force of arms, one potato fork and one spade, and sentenced to be transported 'beyond the Seas for the term of seven years.' A single printed folio leaf, with the details written in manuscript. Signed at the foot of the document by the Gaoler of the Borough. When folded the document is titled in manuscript: '2716/ Wiiliam Lyes/ Twekesbury 9th Jany. 1835./ 7 Years./ Gaolers[sic] Report./ Before and After Trial/ good. Connections Bad./ Quiet Disposition./ Recd. On board the "Ganymede"/ Hulk 17th Jany. 1835./ RA' The document is worn, with some tears; a small corner of loss at the bottom right with the loss of a single word. William Lyes was one of 306 convicts transported on the ship Mary Ann to New South Wales on the 6th of July 1835.
