The 18 pages of text and title are cut by hand on blocks obtained from a single apple tree. The 23 illustrations are cut from wood and lino'. They are combined to form 16 folded sheets which are hand-printed on Mellotex High White Cartridge using a 1820 Cogger Press. Folio. The sides of the binding are made of English yew, the edges painted purple; the hide spine blocked in gold. Original purple cloth slipcover. Each plate is signed by the artist. A fine copy. Clarke said of his book: 'The first thing I think about it is that it is so uncompromisingly non-utilitarian. It is a glorious protest against everything that is practical, economical, useful. It is a Ruskinian book in the best sense.'.
