HOW DEAR IS LIFE. by WIILIAMSON, Henry.

HOW DEAR IS LIFE.

London.Macdonald. 1954. 335, [1]pp. advertisement. Original cloth, gilt. Pictorial dust-wrapper. Octavo. First edition. Very slight spotting on fore-edges; wrapper chipped at head and heel of spine, and with short tear to top of spine, also a little worn at corners. A very good copy in a good plus wrapper of an important presentation copy.Inscribed by Williamson to the author Kenneth Young on the front free endpaper: 'Kenneth Young, from Henry Williamson, June 1958 (Some readers coming new to this volume - the fourth in the Ancient Sunlight Chronicle - say that the character of Philip is me. One reason may be that pp 10-130 are the original ending of Volume 3, Young Phillip Maddison. That book had the cut, so I chopped off its tail and turned it into the head of No. 4. Likewise, the original tail of this here No 4 is stuck on to the beginning of No. 6, A Fox under my Cloak. So please, if Phillip seems odd - & he is "very nearly the split-minded little boy", in J. M. Murry's words - it is all due to the cost of printing and paper!). HW'
