Marks’s Edition. THE HISTORY OF THE CHILDREN IN THE WOOD.

Marks’s Edition. THE HISTORY OF THE CHILDREN IN THE WOOD.

London: Published by J. L. Marks, 91 Long Lane, Smithfield, No date [circa 1840s]. [8] leaves, printed on one side only, the first and last pasted to the wrappers as issued. Illustrated with eight hand-coloured engravings. Original pictorial wrappers. 180 x 112 mm. Covers a little worn and soiled with an ownership name on front panel, but a very good copy of a scarce toy book. Interestingly, the lower wrapper bears an advertisement for ‘Elegantly Colored Juvenile Books, Published by Steele & Durrie, 378 Broadway, Albany.’ And ‘R. H. Pease, Lithographer on Wood, and Publisher of Games, Alphabets and Toy books., which would suggest that Marks had come to an arrangement for his toy books be issued in New York. .
