London: H. D. Symonds, 1792. [5], iii, 143, [3 ad’s] pages. Pages misnumbered between 136/139, but complete. Original pink paper-covered boards with printed paper label to upper panel.; paper spine replaced at some time. 151 x 96 mm. First edition. An ‘advertisement’ states that ‘the first and last Parts have been out of print for almost thirty years, and we can only conclude that they must have been integral to a work with a different title. Worldcat records three copies only of this printing. ESTC adds another two. This copy is without the portrait frontispiece of the author that some copies have, but as the half-title makes plain, the book was available, ‘Price 1s. 6d. or 2s. with a striking likeness of the author.’ So, copies without a frontispiece are not incomplete. Ryland encourages the use of many types of cards as teaching aids and comments that since the first edition of this work, ‘most of the cards here mentioned have been published by Mr. Carrington Bowles.’
