LES SINGERIES HUMAINES. Petit museum Comique et Grotesque.
Paris: Louis Janet, No date [circa 1825-30]. iv, 146, [1 table], [1 blank] pages.; Title-page with a finely hand-coloured engraved vignette, 12 fully hand-coloured engraved plates. Publisher’s quarter calf gilt over pictorial paper-covered boards, each panel bearing a hand-coloured lithograph. All edges gilt. Oblong: 126 198 mm. Boards worn at corners; covers darkened and with some staining; spine repaired; internally the book is spotted and marked – particularly so the tissue guards; one leaf has a tear, but without loss; two others have old crease marks. However, this is a rare and highly desirable book and not all copies, of which six in total are listed on Worldcat, are hand-coloured as this copy is. Fine copies sell for several thousand pounds, so this is not unreasonable.
