Pastedown advertisements to inner faces of covers for other works issued by Fores. The work bound in to half blue morocco over marbled boards with gilt title to spine. The front end paper bears the bookplate of Lord Rosebery. Binding rubbed; few internal marks; else very good. Together with: A manuscript copy of the first issue of the work. 48 leaves, each bearing an original pen & ink illustration, plus the two original illustrations for the covers, which are drawn on stiff buff card in black ink heightened with white. Each illustration is signed J. A. H. Bound in full red morocco gilt with elaborate gilding to the spine and inner dentelles, and gilt titling to the upper cover. Little rubbed and worn; else excellent. In the first issue, on page five, one of the two pages following the Court Physician and Apothecary, is carrying an oversized colonic syringe. Perhaps public opinion deemed this in poor taste, as, in the second issue, the syringe has been replaced by an umbrella or parasol.
