An A. L. S.

1980. A two-page manuscript letter from the surrealist poet David Gascoyne, to the poet Paul Edwards, dated 1 April 1980. He tells Edwards that he wants to help him by contributing to his magazine, but has just sent off a ‘whole batch for the second issue of Poetry London. However, he is enclosing an extract from Andre Breton and Philippe Soupault, Les Champs Magnnetiques, which he is translating into English. The extract is a two page typed excerpt from the opening passage of The Silverless Mirror. It is signed in biro by Gascoyne and has some small manuscript corrections. The Magnetic Fields, translated by Gascoyne, was first published in the U.K. in 1985. The two items. This item is subject to VAT at 20%.
