FELISSA; or, the Life and Opinions of a Kitten of Sentiment….
London: J. Harris, 1811. (iv), 131 pages. Illustrated with 12 hand-coloured copperplate engravings. Contemporary paper-covered boards with a mounted printed label to the upper panel. 12mo. 196 x 120 mm. First edition. Recently re-backed in paper to match original; some off-setting from the plates as appears always to be the case; name of ‘Elizabeth Saville Collings - the gift of her Dear Mama April the 7th - 1827’ to endpaper; some offsetting of the plates as is usual; some light soiling. An excellent large copy of this rare children’s book. Moon 257 Mrs Moon considered Felissa to be ’a deliciously spirited cat-story, with charming illustrations. I regard it as one of the period’s outstanding books for children. It is surprising that eleven years passed before it was reissued.’
