Presentation copy inscribed in the blank margin beneath the portrait frontispiece: 'Willie joins me in regards to all. Your every truly W Thom June 1845.' The Willie referred to is William Thom's son, who is shown in the frontispiece standing next to his father. William Thom had various careers, including weaving, flute-player, singer, and poet. This the second edition has ten new poems, along with a new preface, dedication, section of "recollections," and "the author's acknowledgement" at the end.
