On February 5th 1876 Dodgson noted in his Diary: "In the afternoon I wrote a large piece of MS. For An Easter Letter which I am again thinking of printing to insert in copies of my Easter book…." And on March 22cnd: 2.30a.m. I have been sitting up, finishing the MS. Of a little 'Easter Letter' to put into copies of 'The Snark.' Though all eight printings of an 'Easter Greeting' are scarce, the first is notoriously so.
