On the versos are, a page of introduction to Meggendorfer and to this type of pop-up book, witten by Justin Schiller; an introduction to the history of the circus by Rodney Peppe; a description of the 6 scenes; and a illustrated page showing crowds queuing outside the big top. The acts feature daredevil riders and their horses, acrobats, clowns, the orchestra etc. Original pictorial card covers. 33 x 22 cm. Very slightly bumped at corners; else fine. First published in 1887 by J. F. Schreiber, this book is considered to be Meggendorfer's best work.
