Description 169, [1], [10pp catalogue. With explanatory rebus-woodcuts in the preliminaries, and a rebus dictionary with 839 woodcuts of rebus images together with their explanation. Included is a deaf and dumb finger- alphabet. Original wrappers with loss to the spine. Some water-staining. Else a very good copy of a very scarce title. A popular book by Ana-Gramme Blismon, pseudonym of Simon Blocquel. An advertisement facing the title-page states that the book is available from Blocquel-Castiaux at Lille where also can be found 'Le Petit Oracle de Amants,' a little book with a game of rebuses for young lovers. At the end of the book is an interesting publisher's catalogue listing other rebus books. The author begins the work by defending the word 'Physiologie' used in the title. He explains the uses of rebuses and their various forms.
