Description 72 pages. Wood-engraved frontispiece showing 'A good Boy and Girl at their Books.' Engraved title with the royal coat of arms.; two-page wood-engraved pictorial alphabet; and 25 woodcuts within the text. Original Dutch floral boards. 90 x 82 mm. Contained in a modern folding morocco-backed gilt box. Paper lost from spine; boards worn; short tear in one leaf; juvenile ownership inscriptions to both sets of endpapers. To the rear pastedown: 'Rebekah Burrden 1768.' To the front free endpaper., 'Ann Burrd her Book. God Bless King George an all His men Joanna Barrdon her book and pen octo ye 26 1768.' [There would seem to be considerable uncertainty about the spelling of the surname as there are other signatures with yet more spellings.] Roscoe J324(4). This primer was first published circa 1751, but all 18th century copies are rare.
