Description 16 miniature volumes, contained in a wooden book divided into four compartments, with a sliding lid shaped to appear as a bookcase, a pastedown hand-coloured label showing books behind glass with a scene of a mother instructing her children below. The books measure approximately 6x4.8cm. Books 1, 2 and 16 have 60 pages, but the remainder mostly have 30 - 32 pages. All but book 2 are illustrated with engravings. Bound in different coloured papers with shaped paper labels as pastedowns to both boards. Some spines expertly repaired; one blank corner lost from volume I; some loss to the pediment of the sliding lid; else a very good set. The sliding lid in unusually good condition though a little bowed and consequently somewhat loose. See Alderson. Miniature Libraries for the Young.
