Description [8] '538' pages, with erratic page numbering throughout as usual, but complete. Engraved pictorial title by G. Glover, and 45 engraved portraits in the text [ one printed upside down]. Early calf recently re-backed; black gilt label. First edition. Some restoration to the title; two leaves with short marginal tears; some corners turned; small wormhole to lower blank margin; else a very good copy. Donald Lupton served during the early part of his life as chaplain to the English forces in the Low Countries and Germany. By 1632 he had settled in London, where he subsisted as a hack author. Though he paid assiduous court to all parties in church and state, he failed to obtain preferment until 27 March 1663, when he was appointed vicar of Sunbury, Middlesex.
